Tonnie Jones was born in Palo Alto, California, on Valentine's Day, 1943. In 1965 he moved to New York City where he became an art teacher and a recognized sculptor and painter. His works have been purchased by private collectors and by the Brooklyn Museum. Notably, his 10-foot bronze casting,
Thunder, made a cameo appearance in the film
Rocky.
His work was inspired, passionate and most often a portrait of an important aspect of black culture. He completed his last sculpture,
Call to Unity, shortly before his passing on September 16, 2004. This blog is a lasting tribute to my brother, Tonnie -- the artist, Tahni -- whose artistic legacy lives on in his works.
